Crafts :: Paper Bag Chocolate Advent Calendar

You might remember last’ years  Advent calendar I made for Alex; he liked it so much I thought I’d surprise him every year with one! :)

As you might remember from the previous post, an Advent calendar is a calendar that begins on 1st December and ends on Christmas; it consists of 24 little doors or boxes numbered from 1 to 24. Beginning on the first day of December, one door is opened each day, counting down the days remaining until Christmas Eve; behind each door is a treat, a piece of chocolate or a toy.

This Advent calendar is made of little brown paper bags and red ribbon; each bag is filled with sweet stuff.
I wanted to put little notes in them as well, but as I did the calendar at the last moment (hence the late post) I was all hurried and I totally forgot about the notes!

That’s what I needed:

  • 25 brown paper bags (the smallest size I found)
  • red ribbon
  • string (if you want to make a garland)
  • plenty of candy (I used m&ms, Snickers and mini waffle chocolate cakes)

…and that’s what you can do to make one:

I trimmed my bags so that their edges aren’t jagged and drew numbers from 1 to 25 on each of them!

I filled them with candy…and tried not to eat it all.

Then I wrapped ribbon around the paper bags so that they look like pouches!

After that, I  hung them on the string to form a garland.

Aren’t they just cute?

I can’t show you the garland because that part actually failed! I couldn’t find a proper place to hang it in Alex’s place, so I just arranged them on a surface after spending half an hour running inside the house and trying different places to hang the calendar. :P

The pouches are even cuter in person (:P) than in the pictures. Thank you :$
