In this post we will not focus on specific energy saving tips but we will rather explain the more abstract notion of green computing. According to Wikipedia, it is “the study and practice of designing, manufacturing, using, and disposing of computers, servers, and associated subsystems—such as monitors, printers, storage devices, and networking and communications systems—efficiently and effectively with minimal or no impact on the environment”. Many companies have recently embraced the idea of green computing, due to environmental sensitivity or, more likely, due to the cost savings involved. Whatever the reason, the result is the same: humanity’s carbon dioxide footprint on this planet is reduced and hazardous material disposal is reduced.
